US SOCCER IN THAILAND

By

Homeland Society

A non-profit organization

OVERVIEW
Homeland Society Inc is a non-profit organization.  Our goal is to relieve urban congestion and enhance rural living standard.   Our work includes the US and overseas.

What is US soccer in Thailand?
US soccer in Thailand is the Homeland Society’s special project.  Every summer, Homeland Society will give scholarships to American Youth Soccer (girl) team with a coach to play 5 matches in Thailand as well as scholarship to local (Thai) youth (girl) teams.  In each match the American team will play against different local teams.  One in the north, 1 in the south, 2 in the northeastern, and 1 in the central.  At any rate the team will play in small villages, not in  Bangkok or any big cities.   This criteria is to generate interests for the villagers and counter-balance the typical magnetic forces normally generated by most cities.  This is our goal in bringing interest to small communities, not cities.  This involves 20 persons in the team.

What is the source of funding?
Homeland Society is exploring ideas to do fund raising.  We intend to use the event to attract scholarship givers.   One idea is to create televised occasion for American audience (it is also possible that the Thai, Malaysian, Singaporean televisions will air the program at the same time).   The source of funding must come from TV advertising, similar to any prime-time programs.  We may use this writing to approach the major network.

Why Thailand?
Thailand is a well-known country through its tourism campaign.  It suffers a super-large city syndrome.  Bangkok develops the worst traffic jam in the world.

Why Girl Soccer?
Played in a large field, soccer is known around the world.  It has high profile character and can generate interest to no-interest locations.  Girls from the US (the West) will demonstrate good example of how female can participate in athletic sport as well other cultural exchange activities.

What We Hope To Interest American Audience Are:
1. Cultural, educational differences between America and Thailand: Villagers are Thai and mostly Buddhist by tradition or forebear heritage.  The variation of this, Muslim, will be found in the South.  In the Thai rural, American audience will see more contrast (comparing against American backdrop).  This could be summarized in, 1) lack of education [most educated people has tendency to leave villages], 2) lack of exposure to the Western, 3) lack of resource, 4) Lack of outlook in daily life, 5) Influence of Buddhism [Islamic in the South are minorities], 6) Non-automobile oriented society.

2. Economic different in America and Rural Thailand: This may be seen in the villages, school houses, the soccer-fields themselves, the country sides, roadway, public convenience and information system, etc.

3. Athletic ability and skill in the game--American vs. Thai: Due to our  (US) health conscious and general level of education, the US’s youth is assumed to be physically strong and more athletic than the Thai counter-part.  Soccer in Thailand has been influenced by the World Cup, European, or Latin American environments, and has been the nation’s interest long before soccer in the US.  This could mean that the Thai players are more skilful.  On the other hand, at the youth’s levels, Thailand may not have the levels of interest equal to the US.  This is a very interesting match up.  All 5 local teams will offer variations of opposition.

4. Coaching differences or similarities: Thai coaching capacities are limited and less sophisticated comparing to the US.  It is interesting to observe if and when the Thai teams win any match.  Certain close up look will be attempted to show how coaching are done in both camps.

1. Introduction of “US soccer in Thailand” (15 minutes)

An American Youth Girl Soccer team is selected and awarded with scholarship to play 5 matches in summer in rural, Thailand.  Opposition teams are local from each location.

Why rural?
